And we’re off…

Waiting for the Logan Express

We are at the airport, and our first flight of three boards in 16 minutes. We got here extra early (which Jess usually hates doing having honed her airport process down to a tight 60 minutes) so we could check our bags. In a strange twist, we each got two free checked bags, but would have had to pay for gate checking if anyone questioned whether our backpacks weighed more than 17.5lbs.

Loaded up and ready to go

It turns out we are pretty far over that weight limit:

  • Jess Backpack: 22.5lbs
  • Jess Daypack: 9.5lbs
  • Eric Backpack: 21.5lbs
  • Eric Daypack: 11lbs
  • Travel pillow bag: 2.5 lbs

We were first in line to check bags, and we flew through security thanks to precheck, so we have been sitting at the gate for 2.5 hours.

The advantage to being that early in this case is we can’t spend any more time unpacking and repacking or worrying if we have everything. If we don’t have it now, we either don’t need it or we can acquire it there.

First stop: Miami – we should get there around 8:30pm tonight.

Second stop: Santiago – we should get there sometime tomorrow morning. Luckily, we are pretty good at sleeping on planes.

Third stop: Puerto Natales – we should arrive tomorrow afternoon…

…and then our adventure begins!

  1. So as parents we check the blog to see if you are safe and sound. As parents of rock climbers we are left with this cliff hanger…..We can’t wait for the next installment! Glad you made it swiftly through all the obstacles on the US end of this trip. Making another cuppa while we wait……
